There are love-hate relationships in fashion too !
Take the jumpsuit for example… or the playsuit, the romper, the onesie, the one-piece, the unitard…or any other names it has been given (my head is spinning! ).
Flashback to 1919 the jumpsuit was created as a suit for jumping worn by sky divers, aviators and so on. So I’ll go with jumpsuit if you will as it seems to be accurate even today – don’t we jump into these one pieces after all ?
In the 1920s, Coco Chanel put the jumpsuit up on the fashion scene. After her Schiaparelli in the 30s, Courrèges and Yves Saint Laurent in the 70s picked up the trend. The jumpsuit gained its “must have” status with ambassadors such as Abba, Elvis, Cher, Bianca Jagger, Diana Ross… It also invaded our pop culture with Madonna (Papa don’t preach), Britney Spears (Oops I did it again) or Mel B during her Spice Girls days. After a few years of being considered outdated, boring, the 2000s jumpsuit has been adopted by the trend aficionados in seconds ! So are jumpsuits the yay-nay of fashion items ? The love-hate relationship seems real!
To be honest I love these one-pieces outfits ! Aren’t they truly lifesavers from time to time ?
They come in as many styles as they’ve got names! Casual or formal, let’s admit that we love the one-piece cause it’s an easy way to jump into a polished look on those “I-don’t-know-what-to-wear days”.
